Description

This class is for the kids with ink-stained fingers, the ones who are frantically typing, even though it’s long past time to go to bed. It’s for the kids who have to be reminded to look up from their books as they walk out of the library, the ones who dress as fictional characters for Halloween.

We'll use mentor texts as a way in to character, plot, world-building and a wide variety of genres. The class is designed to build confidence and community among bibliophiles, bolstering storytelling chops while blurring the lines between writing and play. We’ll use traditional prompts as well as video, photography and illustration to spark writing, and play games to strengthen the writer’s voices and build community.

As with all our programs, we use the Amherst Writing Method, a methodology rooted in the belief that everyone is a writer, that spoken and written voices can only grow clearer and stronger with practice and validation and that positive feedback and encouragement are pathways to lifelong creative freedom.

This class will be held on Zoom.
